Ayurveda Summer Regimen


Ayurveda is life science which explains about the importance of following seasonal routine during each and every season. Because we are in a fast pace world, we might forget the importance of effects environment and nature have on our body. Living in harmony with nature is one of the key to leading life with out any disease. Seasonal changes have greater impact on body and are responsible for causing many types of diseases when you don't follow diet and lifestyle to maintain the natural balance. Lucky for us ayurveda already given us detailed regimen for each and every season.

Summer is hot season where sun's energy is predominant which causes the fire element to aggravate during this season. In turn PITTA is a dominant dosha during this season despite of whatever constitution you are. During this season digestive fire and energy are weak. During this season body activities and diet that can alleviate PITTA are highly recommended.

Stay cool, and Follow these regimen!

- Favour foods which are sweet, Pungent and Bitter.
- It is advisable to stay in cool and airy room.
- Drink plenty of cooling liquids made from summer fruits, coconut water and even normal water to avoid any sun stroke.
- Favour vegetables like Artichokes, Asparagus, Beet Greens, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Celery, Chard, Collard Greens, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Kale, Lettuce, Okra, Potatoes, Watercress and Zucchini.
- Favour fruits like Apples, Avocados, Berries, Cherries, Coconut, Cranberries, Grapes, Limes, Mangoes, Melons, Pears, Pineapples, Plums, Pomegranates and Prunes.
- Drink plenty of cooling liquids made from summer fruits, coconut water and even normal water to avoid any sun stroke.
- Cooking with sunflower oil and coconut oil is recommended.
- Gentle spices like coriander, dill, fennel, lime, parsley and mint are good for sprinkling and for making chutneys.
- Beef (moderation), Chicken, Duck (moderation), Eggs (moderation), Freshwater Fish, Lamb (moderation), Pork, Shrimp (moderation) and Turkey.

Dont's

- Ayurveda recommends avoiding too much strenuous exercise during summer.
- Avoid food which is too hot, spicy, oily and fried.
- Avoid alcohol and sexual intercourse during this season.

Summer is one of the nice seasons here in UK as it is a cold country. If proper diet and lifestyle has been followed one can enjoy the british summer to the most.
