Autumn Ayurveda Regimen

Why living in sync with laws of nature is important? Question I answer every single time I write a post about sesonal regimen. We are part and parcel of nature and we are bound to follow the nature if we want harmony.

Ayurveda says one has to follow seasonal routine to nurture according to the season and not to have any infections or imbalances that seasonal change can have on our body. | Autumn happens when trees dance naked and welcome winter with bare arms | Autumn is a season of Vata dominance as autumn comes after summer. Autumn in UK or Europe is windy with bit of showers here and there. Dry winds, moist, cold weather are some of the characteristics that we see during autumn Food - Warm, nourishing and spicy food is recommended - Sweet, Sour and salty tastes are to be eaten - Vata needs nourishing warmth and grounding food is best for vata - Oil or ghee is good for vata because of its dry nature - Meat is considered good during this season Lifestyle - Vata is always moving , with out no stability. Vata needs grounding, stability so activities which are not too aggressive, calming and gentle practices are good. - Follow a daily routine to keep vata in pace. Plan your day ahead and follow step by step accordingly. This can avoid any mental vata imbalance. - Choose gentle breathing exercises like alternate breathing, humming bee meditation to physical work outs like walking, slow cycling are good choice. Look out for - Avoid cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, leafy greens, potatoes, green beans, millets and any raw uncooked vegetables - Nuts are considered very good for vata balance - Spices are overall good for vata balance - Milk, dairy products and meat are especially beneficial Fruits and Vegetables to favour - Apples, Avocados, oranges, papayas, Bananas, Dates, Mangoes -Beets, Carrots , Okra, Pumpkins, sweet potatoes and Onions We are what we eat and digest according to ayurveda. So, anything and everything we put in our mouth has a impact on our body. Eating mindfully can go a long way in keeping you healthy. Eating healthy is a matter of choice after all.
