Say “NO” to Carbonated Drinks:
Carbonated drinks are considered as one of the important cause for obesity. One can of a cola contain around 3.3 tablespoons or around 39 grams of sugar. Carbonated drinks due to their sugar content cause fluctuations in blood glucose levels there by impairing functions of pancreas which may lead to Non-Insulin dependent diabetes.
Stop Snacking:
We often snack a lot whenever we feel bored or disappointed or want to have something to go with the movie or game. But snacking is very bad habit if you want to lose weight. Try to choose some healthy options rather than fatty options! Like whole meal snacks, green salads and fruits.
Exercise regularly:
Regular exercise is not only good for your body but also to keep active and for maintaining a better shape. You may not find time with your busy life to exercise but you can always make time for it!
Eat healthy:
This is very difficult thing because knowing what is healthy is a big dilemma! In general leafy veg and green veg and fruits and non - processed foods are considered as healthy and all non - refined foods are unhealthy.
Read the Label:
This is one of the best habits that come in handy when you want to shed some calories. Check for the nutritional value and amount of sugars and fats on the foods. If they have color coding labels on them then try to choose green and amber coloured coding ones.
Sleep Well:
Sleep plays an important role in our body’s metabolism. Like that old saying ‘Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’. Hormones ‘Ghrelin’ and ‘leptin’ which are responsible for our eating habits the former tells us when to eat and the later tells us when to stop are regulated by the sleep patterns. Less sleep equals to more ghrelin and less leptin.
Low fat:
Ice-cream does tastes like an ice-cream even when it is a low fat! Instead of sacrificing the foods you love try eating low fat foods.
Processed foods:
keep an eye for processed foods because due to their preparation they contain more additives than natural foods.
Step up:
Love dancing! Then why not use it for your purpose turn the music on and keep up with beat . Dancing is one of the easiest and entertaining ways to lose some weight. On an average number of calories burned during any type of dance for an hour are more than 100 kilo calories .
Avoid Crash diets:
Crash diets may help to lose weight in the beginning but as soon as you start eating normal food again you will put on weight. So, Ayurveda recommends a long term detailed plan with systematic diet and exercise.
Ayurveda and Obesity
Ayurveda describes obesity as “Santarpana janya vaydi ” which is caused due to excessive eating, sleeping in day time , eating oily foods, not exercising regularly and Kapha increasing diet. Ayurveda line of treating obesity is first using digestive herbs like cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and black pepper to regulate digestive fire. Then, followed by sodhana treatments like Vamana and virechana . Tonic drugs like Guggulu, shilajit are highly recommended. Calming herbs like brahmi are also useful to regulate hunger. "TIP: Drink hot water by adding 1 teaspoon each lemon juice and honey to it every day in the morning and evening. "
